4 Weeks Old!!

The first month has flown by.....and the puppies are really starting to develop different personalities.  They have started eating some soft food, and have really taken more interest in digging in over the last couple of days ;)  The pee pad is in the box as well.....and even though it is still a bit "hit and miss".....they are starting to get the hang of using it.  I put some toys in with them.....and they are starting to play with one another.  They are making all kinds of cute sounds; barking and growling :))  Sometimes they even sounds like they are meowing like little kittens!  "Sparrow" is our biggest at 4 pounds.....and "Puffin" is the smallest at 3 pounds.....and the rest are in between :))  You will notice in these photos that the coats are starting to lift and have some wave.  All the puppies are very soft and have beautiful shiny fleece.
Thank you to our visitors this past weekend for making the long trip to Alberta to meet the puppies (and us)......through some tragic flooding and awful weather!!  We are so glad that you were able to make it, and always enjoy spending time with our puppy families :)
We are looking forward to more visitors in the upcoming weekend as well.....but for now we hope you enjoy the 4 week photos!!

Almost 3 weeks old!!

The puppies are almost three weeks old, and are getting used to being able to see and hear :))  They are walking around.....but are still a little unsteady.  This week we will introduce some soft food mixed with a little goat's milk to take some of the pressure off of mom!  When the puppies nurse during the night.....it sounds like they are chugging straight from a 2 litre milk jug ;)  They are growing like weeds, and starting to get the cutest chubby faces.  They are also making lots of noise.....like little barks and growls; and have begun to "play" with one another.  I could sit and watch them all day as they are very entertaining.  Hope you enjoy these pictures.  I will be sure to post some photos of their first "meal" this week too!!  Hope everyone had a great weekend.  Happy Father's Day to all the special dad's and grandpa's out there.....and of course to our "canine daddy".......Mr. Cleveland Brown ;))

Happy Father's Day Cleveland :))

Hello BIG WORLD ;))

When I came home today at lunch.....some of the eyes were peeking open :))  By the time I got home after work.....all the puppies had their eyes open except Jay!  I'm sure he is taking his time so he can have a big debut and lots of attention all to himself.
I thought I would post pictures tonight instead of waiting; as they look SO super cute!  As soon as Jay starts to see the world.....I will be sure to post a picture of him as well.  As you will see.....these cuties just get more and more loveable by the second!!

Almost 2 weeks old!!

The puppies are getting close to two weeks old.....and I wanted to take some last pictures of them with their eyes closed :)  In the week ahead they will begin to see the world and they will look so different!!  All of the puppies are doing great and are very content.  They are starting to squirm around the whelping box a bit more and before long they will be up on all four legs :)  It is so cute to watch them wobbling along until they get the hang of walking.  Thank you for all of the compliments on the puppy pictures.  It is so fun trying to get a good photo of them.  These were taken over a couple of days.....as I had to wait for each of them to fall asleep in my hands before they would stay still enough to get a picture :))  I have included a closer picture of their faces.....as it is so cute to be able to see the details like their eyelashes and expressions.  Enjoy.....and I will keep you posted on who is the first to peek at us ;)

The cute never ends!

I was taking some pictures tonight in the whelping box and got some that I wanted to share with you.  I have heard from several of you and wanted to say thanks for the compliments on the pictures :))  My father-in-law is a photographer; so over the years I have been fortunate enough to have picked up lots of "tips" and even a few lessons.  I use a digital SLR camera (Sony A200) with a regular lens - which I got using AirMiles.  I have a telephoto lens as well; however it is most useful taking pictures of the puppies while they play in the yard.  If you have looked back on the blog at some of the older posts......I'm sure you have noticed the puppy pictures with the plain "all white" background.  Those are taken by putting the puppies inside a "white box" and using a couple of different types of flashes.  I love taking them....and they are a great way to see the puppies true color.  A couple people have asked me about the fleece colors, and whether they will change.  The puppies are born in "apricot" and "red" with all kinds of shades and variations from light to dark.  As I mentioned before.....some have more black pigment than others - which is evident when you look at the color of their noses.  Often the puppies fleece will get darker as they get older; and some dogs coat color changes slightly from winter to summer as well......(likely because of the increased exposure to sunlight).  Hilo started out a medium apricot, and went to a fairly dark shade of red.  Over the years she has lightened; however she still had a beautiful lustre, and looks like crushed velvet after a haircut :))
Tonight I was using a small dog bed to take some of the pictures....and Hilo came over and laid her head on it like a pillow.  Myna squirmed over and fell asleep, and I got this really cute picture of them....

Hilo and Myna :)

Here are a few other good ones.  I really hope you like them.  I take tons of pictures.....so I will just keep posting :))  I hope everyone keeps in touch!  Have a great weekend.

An important note to all our puppy families......

Please do not try to print any of the pictures from the blog....or the ones I have been e-mailing.  They are sized to show up properly on your computer screen and will not come out good quality.  Once you know which puppy you will be bringing home.....I am happy to e-mail you photos - or put them on a disc so that they are the "large size" which can be made into prints for an album or frame :))

One Week Old!!

One week old already!!

Finch, Jay, Sparrow, Robin, Puffin, Myna

The puppies are growing fast and doing well :))  All of them already weigh over one pound.  Hilo has been a great mom and has been nursing the puppies like crazy!!  She rarely leaves the whelping box.....and sometimes has to be "bribed" with treats to even get her to go outside to the bathroom!  My daughter Katie and I have made a cozy area beside the whelping box that we call "the apartment" :))  We sleep there so we are close by in case anybody needs us ;)  I think Katie is liking all the attention and time with her mom as the puppies are!  The puppies eyes are still closed, and they cannot hear either.....so if anyone gets "lost" during the night; we help Hilo by moving them back to the group.  The next week or two will be very exciting as we will start to see the puppies eyes begin to open!  You will notice in the photos that some of the puppies are beginning to get some darker pigment.  Some of their noses will turn black, and some will remain a pink or "liver" color.  You can also see some of the white markings a little better in some of these pictures.  I will continue to post every week to update photos and to let you know what is happening.  Feel free to e-mail me at any time if you have questions.  Hope all is well with our puppy families, and that you are getting excited to meet and cuddle the newest member of your family.  Until then we will be sure to give them lots of love!!

We love watching the puppies nurse (which is a lot;) and so I thought I would post a couple of pictures for you to see.....
